Most size problems come from comparing a brand’s “M” with another brand’s “M”. Labels are not standard; measurements are. Our chart lists what each garment actually measures, so if you know your own bust, waist and hip in inches you can pick the right size without guessing.
Tanishkha size chart
These are garment measurements — what the piece measures, not what your body should measure.
| Size | Bust | Waist | Hip | Shoulder |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 32 | 28 | 36 | 14 |
| S | 34 | 30 | 38 | 14 |
| M | 36 | 32 | 40 | 14.5 |
| L | 38 | 34 | 42 | 14.5 |
| XL | 40 | 36 | 44 | 15 |
| XXL | 42 | 38 | 46 | 15 |
| XXXL | 44 | 40 | 48 | 15.5 |
Kurti sets and dresses use the same chart. If a particular piece runs differently, its product page says so under Specifications.
How to measure yourself in two minutes
Use a soft measuring tape (an inch tape from any tailoring shop). Measure over the inner wear you would normally wear under the kurti, standing straight, tape snug but not tight.
- Bust — around the fullest part of the chest, tape level all the way round. Breathe out normally before reading.
- Waist — around the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above the navel. Don’t pull in.
- Hip — around the fullest part of the hips and seat, feet together. This decides whether a straight kurti or a midi dress sits well when you walk.
- Shoulder — from the edge of one shoulder bone to the other, across the back. Useful for sleeveless and shirt-style dresses.
Write the four numbers down, add 2 to the bust, and find the row on the chart whose bust matches or is the next size up.
Between two sizes?
- Straight or A-line kurti sets: go with the larger size. Cotton has no stretch, and a kurti that is tight at the bust pulls at the buttons and creases at the waist.
- Tiered and flared dresses: fit is decided by the bust and shoulder only — the skirt is loose. Choose by bust; ignore the hip column.
- Shirt dresses with a belt or tie: the smaller size usually looks better because the belt shapes the waist; check the hip column is at least 2 inches more than yours.
- Hip is larger than the chart for your bust size: take the size that fits your hip; the bust can be taken in by any local tailor for very little, the hip cannot be let out.
Length and sleeves
Kurta length in our sets is around knee length on a woman of 5'4" (162 cm); midi dresses fall mid-calf. If you are noticeably taller or shorter, message us the piece name and your height and we will tell you where it will fall on you. Sleeve length and neck depth are shown in the product photos — the model’s height is in the description when we have it.

Questions we get asked
Is your size chart body measurement or garment measurement?
Garment measurement — what the kurti or dress measures. Choose the size whose bust is about 2 inches more than your own bust.
I usually wear M in ready-made brands. Should I order M?
Not automatically. Measure your bust once; if it is 34 inches, our M (36 bust) is right. If it is 36, take L. Labels differ between brands; inches don’t.
What if the size I ordered doesn’t fit?
Message us on WhatsApp within 2 days of delivery with a photo. Size issues on unworn, unwashed pieces with tags are exchanged for the right size wherever stock allows; see the returns page for the details.
Do your kurtis shrink after washing?
Pure cotton can lose up to half an inch in the first cold wash. Our chart already allows for this; wash in cold water and dry in shade and it stays as measured. See the cotton care guide.
Can I get a piece stitched to my measurements?
Selected designs only. Send the piece name and your measurements on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether it can be customised and the extra time needed.
